Scarcity mindset stinks. Many of us are so pickled in it; we don’t even know there is another option. I’ve been puzzled by my scarcity mindset, feeling that I was doing something wrong. I think because I have felt more time living in an abundance mindset, I am now so painfully aware when I fall back in it. How do we shift from scarcity to abundance thinking?
The abundance mindset is expansive in mind body and spirit. The shift from a scarcity to an abundance mindset requires moving from a place of fear to a place of love and appreciation.
My big ahaa in researching scarcity and abundance is that these are just another way of looking at above and below the line behavior. We may operate above the line in one or more areas of our lives, but find that we harbor resistance elsewhere. Scarcity mindset is just another way to live on the drama triangle instead of the empowerment triangle.
How to shift from scarcity to abundance thinking.
My mind started drifting; I was going down that rabbit hole of not enough. I was bemoaning the fact that my friend was going to a Tom Petty concert and I was working. Even though we live a thousand miles apart and the thought of going to a concert had not even crossed my mind. Then I decided to shift. I asked Alexa to play songs by Tom Petty and suddenly found myself dancing. Next, I played in my garden for a few minutes. I came back in refreshed and quickly finished the task at hand.
So what is my #1 move to shift from scarcity to abundance thinking?
To move is so simplistic you are probably ready to say, “Oh, really.” and click on a different page but read just one minute more. When we feel stuck, the last thing we want to do is move unless it is to fight or flee. When we’re operating below the line or in a scarcity mindset; we’re stuck in story.
Scarcity is hard, difficult struggle. Abundance is grounded, expansive and allowing. Ease and flow.
Instead of trying to shift your mind. You can shift the feeling in your body. Moving your body allows your mind to shift. To paraphrase Einstein, you can’t solve a problem with the same mind that created it. It is okay even encouraged for adults to move for a myriad of reasons. Shifting from a scarcity to an abundance mindset is just one of many.
What are ways you like to move?
My favorite way of moving when working from home is to take my dog for a walk. He is always quite willing to accompany me. Here are a few more ways to move to try but listen to yourself and to your body. The way I like to move or even the way your spouse or best friend likes to move may not be ways you like to move.
- Taking your dog for a walk or playing frisbee.
- Listening to music and dancing.
- Laughing with a friend.
- Just laughing!
- Try walking or moving at different speeds until you find one that feels just right for you.
- Playing with a small child.
- Doing a favor for a neighbor.
- Weeding the garden.
- Making snow people.
- Sex is actually a great shift move.
My ways of moving may not be yours, and that’s okay.
Moving shifts us out of our heads and into our bodies and distracts us from that scarcity place.
We can talk about longer term strategies later, but interrupting the pattern and moving may be just what you need to shift from a scarcity to an abundance mindset. Moving allows us to let go of our resistance.
When we move and focus on our moving, we are in the moment. We change our way of being in the world. Time to take my dog for a walk.
The greatest discovery of my generation is
that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes of mind.
